CAIRO, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Egypt recorded on Tuesday 112 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total infections in the country to 94,752, the Egyptian Health Ministry said.
Meanwhile, 24 more patients died from the respiratory disease in the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 4,912, the ministry's spokesman Khaled Megahed said in a statement.
Also on Tuesday, 1,503 patients were cured and discharged from hospitals, bringing the total recoveries in Egypt to 45,569, the spokesman added.
The Egyptian Health Ministry said Monday that the recovery rate for those infected with coronavirus in quarantine hospitals rose to 44.9 percent for the first time since the pandemic outbreak in February.
Egypt announced its first confirmed COVID-19 case on Feb. 14 and the first death from the coronavirus on March 8.
The country saw a record of 1,774 COVID-19 daily infections on June 19. However, the daily new coronavirus fatalities and infections in Egypt has gradually declined since the first week of July, amid a significant increase in daily new recoveries.
Egypt and China have been working together on fighting the pandemic through exchanging medical aid and expertise.
In early February, Egypt provided aid to China to help with its fight against COVID-19 and China later sent three batches of medical aid to the North African country, the latest of which was in mid-May.
