NAIROBI, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's small-scale farmers are seeking to expand their sales to the Chinese market in order to achieve a post-COVID-19 recovery, the industry lobby said on Tuesday.
Justus Lavi Mwololo, secretary-general, Kenya Small Scale Farmers Forum told Xinhua in Nairobi that the country's traditional markets in North America and Europe are facing challenges due to trade restrictions brought about by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
"China has been able to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic and has reopened its market to imports. We want to sell our mangos, avocados and other agricultural products to the lucrative Chinese market," Mwololo said.
Mwololo added that the east African nation has been selling only limited quantities of its agricultural produce to the Asian nation.
"The small-scale farmers now want to engage in mass production of goods for export to China in order to promote incomes and employment opportunities especially in the rural areas," he noted.
