TUNIS, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian Health Ministry on Saturday reported 1,276 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total infections in the country to 319,512.
The death toll from the virus rose by 73 to 11,350 in Tunisia, and the total number of recoveries reached 276,198, the ministry said in a statement.
A total of 1,356,375 lab tests have been carried out in the country so far, it added.
Earlier in the day, Tunisian Minister of Health Faouzi Mehdi announced that two cases of COVID-19 variant were detected in the North African country.
Mehdi warned of the seriousness of the epidemiological situation in Tunisia on the sidelines of a field visit to the port of Rades, calling for respect for sanitary protocols, hygiene rules and physical distancing.
