LOS GATOS, California: As international content fuels its global growth, Netflix is expanding its language tools on TV to help users explore shows beyond their native tongue.
The streaming giant has announced an update that allows television viewers to access the full range of subtitle and dubbing language options for any title on the platform.
The move is designed to make Netflix's vast global catalog more accessible, particularly as nearly one-third of all viewing on the service now comes from non-English content, the company said.
Language accessibility has been a key factor in the global success of titles like South Korea's Squid Game, Spain's Berlin, and Germany's Oscar-winning All Quiet on the Western Front—all of which have found enthusiastic audiences far beyond their home countries.
Netflix currently offers subtitles in 33 languages and audio dubbing in 36 languages across its content library, although specific availability still depends on the title.
Previously, TV users could only choose from a limited selection of language options. With this update, users can now scroll through the complete list of subtitle and audio languages directly from their TV screens—something already available on mobile and desktop devices.
Netflix said the change was driven by user demand. "We received thousands of language availability requests every month," the company noted.
By making international content easier to enjoy in a preferred language, Netflix is doubling down on its strategy of turning local stories into global hits—and ensuring language is no barrier to binge-watching.
