ABU DHABI, 21st April, 2025 (WAM) -- The Global Council for Tolerance and Peace mourns with deep sorrow the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, a global symbol of peace, compassion, and moral leadership.
Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Jarwan, President of the Council, stated, "Today, the world has lost an exceptional leader and a rare spiritual figure whose legacy will remain etched in the conscience of humanity. His Holiness Pope Francis embodied the values we all strive for-peace, coexistence, and mercy. He was a fearless voice for the voiceless, a tireless defender of the oppressed and the poor, and a true builder of bridges between faiths and cultures."
He added, "The signing of the Document on Human Fraternity, alongside His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, marked a historic milestone in the path of interfaith understanding and human unity. Pope Francis laid down a foundation for global relationships rooted in respect, justice, and mutual dignity."
Al Jarwan affirmed that one of the Pope's most memorable positions in his final days was his clear and courageous support for the rights of the Palestinian people, and his firm condemnation of Israeli aggressions against innocent civilians.
"Pope Francis stood unwaveringly in solidarity with the Palestinian people, calling for an end to their suffering and urging for a just and lasting peace. His stance was not only political, but deeply humanitarian-reflecting his steadfast moral compass and genuine commitment to justice for all," he emphasised.
He concluded, "The memory of Pope Francis will remain alive in the soul of humanity, and his noble message will continue to inspire the world to walk the path of dignity, justice, and compassion. Though we have lost his physical presence, his voice and values will echo through generations to come."
