GAZA, 29th April, 2025 (WAM) -- The media office of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) confirmed on Tuesday that no humanitarian or commercial supplies have entered the Gaza Strip for more than seven weeks.
UNRWA reported that the closure of all crossing points has triggered the worst humanitarian crisis in Gaza since October 2023. The agency stressed that this marks the longest period of aid suspension since the beginning of the conflict, citing an escalating scarcity of food, drinking water, shelter and medical care due to the ongoing Israeli blockade.
The Agency further highlighted that the prices of basic necessities have soared sharply as a result of the continued siege. Many essential medical supplies have already been depleted, with expectations that further shortages will occur in the coming weeks.
According to the agency, only 57 percent of essential medicines are currently available in quantities sufficient for one month or less. Medical services are facing a critical shortage of resources, with two-thirds of essential medical supplies expected to run out in less than two months.
UNRWA also explained that the Israeli blockade is hindering the transfer of supplies from southern Gaza to the north, further exacerbating the challenges faced by humanitarian operations. Despite these severe obstacles, the agency continues to operate nine health centres and 39 medical points, providing approximately 16,000 medical consultations daily, the highest number among all healthcare providers in Gaza.
