Eric Lauer pitched six strong innings, Tyler Heineman had a homer and three RBIs and the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the visiting San Francisco Giants 6-3 on Saturday afternoon.
Lauer (5-2) allowed two runs, two hits and no walks with seven strikeouts.
Addison Barger was 4-for-4 for the Blue Jays, who have won the first of two games of the three-game series. Will Wagner had a two-run double for the second game in a row for the Blue Jays, who had a 14-4 advantage in hits on Saturday.
Willy Adames hit two solo home runs for the Giants.
The Blue Jays had five hits, a walk and a hit batter over the first four innings against Logan Webb (9-7) but could not score. Toronto was 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position in that stretch and grounded into one double play and lined into another.
Lauer retired his first 13 batters of the game and had six strikeouts before Adames connected on a 1-0 fastball for a homer to left with one out in the fifth. It was the Giants' first run of the series.
San Francisco added a run in the sixth. Luis Matos led off by lining a double into the left-field corner. He moved to third on Patrick Bailey's fly to right and scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Heliot Ramos.
The Blue Jays broke through in the bottom of the inning. Bo Bichette singled and Barger doubled to begin. Ernie Clement's grounder found a hole on the left side for an RBI single. Wagner hit a two-run double, then Heineman's drive to center popped out of the glove of a diving Ramos for an RBI double.
Webb completed six innings, allowing four runs, 11 hits and one walk with one strikeout.
Adames jumped on Chad Green's center-cut fastball for a homer to left with two out in the seventh.
Toronto's Brendon Little tossed a perfect eighth with one strikeout.
Heineman's homer to right against Ryan Walker followed Wagner's single with one out in the eighth.
Jeff Hoffman pitched around a single in the ninth to earn his 23rd save.
