(260202) -- NAIROBI, Feb. 2, 2026 (Xinhua) -- African elephants walk by the shores of Lake Amboseli in Kajiado County, Kenya, Jan. 8, 2026. World Wetlands Day is observed annually on Feb. 2 to raise global awareness of the vital role of wetlands for people, nature and culture.

Kenya boasts one of the greatest diversity of wetland types in East Africa, with wetlands such as Lake Amboseli and Lake Naivasa playing a significant role in local water resource security, biodiversity conservation, food production and climate regulation. (Xinhua/Xie Jianfei)
