BRUSSELS, 9th April, 2025 (WAM) -- Pharmaceutical industry officials in the European Union have warned that US tariffs could prompt the relocation of pharmaceutical activities from Europe to the United States, stressing the need for regulatory reforms within the EU to protect intellectual property and support innovation.
Industry leaders have called for swift legislative action in the EU's pharmaceutical sector to mitigate the risks posed by potential US tariffs.
The European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) urged the EU to take immediate measures and introduce regulatory changes to boost innovation and strengthen intellectual property protection within the bloc.
The warning comes amid growing concerns that pharmaceutical products, which were initially exempt from import duties, may soon face additional tariffs, posing a serious threat to export revenues and global competitiveness.
